Let's be honest: when you imagine your autumn photoshoot in Paris, you probably picture golden leaves, warm sunshine, beautiful streets and that perfect Parisian light.
But what if you wake up, look out of the window and see... rain?
First of all, don't panic. Paris doesn't stop being beautiful when it rains. In fact, sometimes it becomes even more photogenic.
And as someone who photographs people in Paris all year round, I can tell you that a little rain is not necessarily bad news. Sometimes it's the beginning of something much more interesting.
What if it rains heavily?
If the weather forecast promises proper autumn rain, we still have options!
Paris has some beautiful covered locations where we can enjoy the architecture and atmosphere without getting completely soaked.
One of my favourite places is Palais Royal. Its elegant arcades, columns and beautiful courtyard offer plenty of possibilities for photographs, even when the weather isn't cooperating.
Another lovely option is Place des Vosges in Le Marais. Its beautiful covered arcades, red brick architecture and charming atmosphere make it a wonderful location for an autumn photoshoot. We can walk around the square, take shelter under the arches and create some beautiful photographs without worrying too much about the rain.
There are also other lovely covered spots around the city. Depending on the location and the mood you're looking for, we can find a place that works perfectly for your photoshoot.
The idea is not to spend an hour hiding from the rain. It's to make the most of the beautiful Parisian surroundings while staying comfortable.
A little drizzle? Actually, that's my favourite kind of weather.
Now, here's a little secret: I genuinely love photographing Paris on slightly rainy days.
Not a storm, of course. Just that soft autumn drizzle that makes the streets shiny and the city look like a scene from an old French movie.
Wet pavements reflect the lights, colours become richer, the sky gets beautifully moody, and everything feels a little more cinematic.
And the best part? The atmosphere is completely different from the usual sunny-day photos.
You get fewer crowds, more intimate moments, spontaneous laughter and those beautiful in-between shots that don't look overly planned.
Sometimes we walk under umbrellas, stop at a cosy café, cross a quiet street or simply enjoy the moment. I give you a little direction, but I don't want you to spend the whole session thinking about where to put your hands or how to smile.
I want your photos to feel like memories, not like a photoshoot.
What should you bring to a rainy Paris photoshoot?
A few simple things can make a big difference:
Don't worry about bringing an umbrella. I'll bring a beautiful transparent umbrella for our photoshoot. It's practical, looks lovely in pictures and, most importantly, doesn't hide your face. One less thing to pack for your Paris trip!
Comfortable shoes. Especially if we're planning to explore the streets. You can always change into your beautiful shoes when we find the right spot.
A warm layer. Autumn in Paris can be surprisingly chilly, especially when it's windy.
A positive attitude. I know, easier said than done when your hair is getting wet! But trust me, a little spontaneity often makes the best photographs.
And don't worry too much about your hair. A few loose strands and a slightly messy look can be much more charming than everything being perfectly in place.
Should we reschedule if the weather is bad?
It depends on the rain.
If it's light drizzle or occasional showers, I would usually suggest keeping the photoshoot. We can adapt our route, use covered locations and take advantage of the beautiful atmosphere.
If there's heavy rain, strong wind or a proper storm, it's probably better to reschedule if possible. There's no need to turn your Paris experience into an extreme sport!
Before the session, I'll check the forecast and we'll discuss the best option together. I'm always happy to suggest an alternative location or adjust our plans.
A different kind of Paris
I love sunny Paris, of course. Those golden autumn afternoons are hard to beat.
But I also love the quieter, moodier side of the city. The reflections on the pavement, the warm lights inside cafés, the old architecture disappearing into the mist.
Not every beautiful photograph needs blue skies and sunshine.
Sometimes the most memorable photos come from unexpected weather, spontaneous moments and plans that didn't go quite as expected.
So if you're visiting Paris this autumn and the forecast says rain, don't cancel your dream of having beautiful photographs in the city.
Bring an umbrella. I'll take care of the rest.
And who knows? You might end up with photographs you love even more than the ones you imagined.
